Turkey is one of the main pomegranate producing countries in the world. It is possible to grow pomegranates in most parts of Turkey. Although Turkey's total pomegranate production changes from year to year, recent production has reached 56,000 tons per year (Anonymous, 1996). The substantial percentage of pomegranates are currently growing in the Mediterranean region of Turkey. Aegean and Southeast Anatolia regions are two other important regions engaged in pomegranate production. The production and consumption lies in both domestic markets and outside markets, which have steadily been increasing. Hicaznar pomegranate cultivar was selected in the Mediterranean region as the most important cultivation for export to European countries and also most preferred in domestic markets.
